Knitted Stool 2011

Knitted Chair examins traditional crafts as a form of constructed textile in a contemporary context and explores emotional relationship between humans and objects. The lack of the emotional and personal bond between the owner and personal objects had gradually emerged due to fast changing trends and low price that prompt consumers to buy more than they need. Against the backdrop of the problem of disposability of fashion, Knitted chair aims to highlight the significance of 'handmade', -crafted. Knitted Chair contends that this form of production offers emotional contact betwwen ourselves and what we use. Hand-crafting is a slow and thoughtful process that truly engages the maker into carefully giving great attention to the product. It is no longer a fleeting fashion item to be discarded after one season, but rather a personal story to be continued. It is for this very reason that hand-crafting was employed as the method and vehicle and antique raw materials serve the object.
